The Good Taste of the West

The Harvest tradition of quality dates back to the 1920s, when Alexander Propp started making sausage in the village of Rhein, Saskatchewan using recipes that had been handed down through generations. In 1932, the family moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and established Propp's Meat Market and Groceteria, where sausage-making continued full-scale.

By the early 1950s, Alexander's sons had outgrown the location. The eldest son, Edward, became company president and spearheaded the construction of an abbatoir and processing plant called Mid-West Packers, which produced Harvest-brand products.

In 1989, two years after management of the company passed to Kenn Propp, a grandson of the original founder, construction started on a new plant in Yorkton. The plant has since been expanded again.

Harvest Meats' emphasis on quality has given the company sufficient depth to compete with all specialty sausage houses, and its strong emphasis on service and product development keeps it at the forefront of the rapidly-changing meat industry. The product line includes a variety of bacons, sausages, and hams, and is proud of the large number of products available that are gluten-free, and include no plant proteins of any kind.
